Salmonella Dub Nu L~bum Backstory

Salmonella Dub first started working on this their 9th studio L~bum jamming with Ants Smith in their Kaikoura Hapuku Creative retreat studio January 2012 during the week of the last Kaikoura Roots Festival. Tracks began incubating in Ant’s Sydney studio in 2013. Meanwhile Andrew relentlessly toured the Salmonella Dub Soundsystem through Mainland Aotearoa and across Australia as studio sessions moved from Kaikoura to Christchurch Nelson and Sydney.

In 2014 the band released their first new material since 2009’s Platinum selling Freak Controller album. Same Home Town dropped in August 2014 celebrating the bands 20th birthday. Dedicated to their hometown Otautahi Christchurch and co produced by Ants this tune was released on 12” vinyl featuring remixes from Dub FX, Tui Soundsystem & Organikismness Same Home Town EP The video directed by Mardo El-Noor features signage from the broken landscaped of Otautahi.

2016 saw the release of Searching for the Sun arranged with Ant's at his Smith and Western Studio in Sydney and mixed by David Harrow in his LA studio over December.

In 2017 the band released World She Waits featuring Nino Birch from Seminal Wellington band Beat Rhythm Fashion, co produced by Harry Bretherton. WSW was written after the NZ Recorded Music Industries offer to induct Salmonella Dub into the NZ Hall of fame.

The band humbly accepted the offer. However, it was not to be. Legacy award winners are asked to choose a kiwi act to represent a song at the induction. Unfortunately Salmonella Dub’s choice of Beat Rhythm Fashion was rejected by the Vodafone Tui awards producers and Salmonella Dub bowed out of the awards

In 2018 Salmonella Dub turned 25 and celebrated their birthday by releasing Commercial Grates a best of 30 track pack of radio cuts on January 13th in Hagley Park Christchurch with friends, Tiki Taane, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Trinity Roots, Ladi 6 and Soulware. In July 2018 the band launched their massive 8hr, 10 x 12” albums Deluxe Vinyl Boxset with 40 page historic pictorial book.

In 2018 the Salmonella Dub Soundsystem began playing out the bands 3rd Nu L~bum tune Soul Love Trippa while the band have worked on 12 more album arrangements and radio edts with Harry Bretherton. Salmonella Dub Soul Love Trippa Radio edit
